Step Away, Germs!

I feel a cold coming on – ugh. At least it’s happening now as opposed to later.

So what am I doing? Attacking the damn thing before it gets the best of me. I’m drinking orange juice, sucking on cough drops and telling myself to fight it. I’ve always been weird in that I can pretty much get my body to do whatever I want it to do. I know that sounds silly, stupid even, but if I say a cold is going to last only a week, by GOD, does it last only a week. If I say that this’ll only last for three days, DAMNIT, it’s going to last for only three days. Rare are the instances that I lose and have to succumb to something longer. Mental strength? Fast healer? Delusional? I’m sure all of you would pick the latter.

But hey, believe me or not.

I probably got it from my soon-to-be 15-year-old brother. He was sniffling about me like crazy yesterday (and being a righteous little ass, too – why are men suck jerks when they’re sick?), not bothering to blow his nose or keep a respectable distance. While whatever I have could disappear tomorrow (if I have my way it will), I am not appreciative of getting this hint of a cold at all. Yesterday I was ticking money off of my brother’s birthday gift because of his pissy attitude; today I’m ticking money off because he gave me something, damnit.

I’m kidding, M. I love you!

(He’s at home sick. If I post tomorrow that I’ve had my ass kicked, you know who did it.)

Anyway, I’ll do all I can physically and mentally to ward off this cold, but I’m also almost considering lettign it happen on its worse level. I’m taking vacation soon, and I don’t want to be a sniffling mess in mid-October. Of course, there’s no way to ensure that I won’t be sick in mid-October, but maybe letting this illness run its course will give me a bye for that month.

I deal with my body in bargains. I’m bargaining now.

Like I said, whatever I have isn’t that bad. Were I doing copious amounts of work, though, I’d be worried that my concentration would be affected. Happily, no. Especially since I’m working on the Event Held At A Super Speedway, So Nothing At All Can Be Seen.

Good times. Back to fighting my rebelling sinuses.
