Bargaining Once More

Dear body:

Hello, body! How are you?

I’m writing this because I feel there’s been a rift between you and me, body dear. I feel as if I might’ve done something to offend you. Namely, telling the world entire that I can tell you what to do.

I understand that you might not be appreciative of such a statement, and especially in so public a forum. You’ve made it quite clear by ignoring my requests and allowing me to get more ill. I do understand that you think I should’ve checked with you before posting that entry, but I have to say: You’re with me everywhere I go! It would’ve been appropriate for you to express your discomfort with the post, and I probably would’ve written something else if I had known I was going to anger you so. In the future, please speak up a bit. For now, can we just admit that we’re both wrong and let bygones be bygones?

Because, after all, dear body, I do try to treat you well. I give you plenty of exercise, lots of fruits and veggies and have started treating you to copious amounts of water instead of Diet Coke (mmm, water! refreshing!). You obviously repay the favor by losing weight when it’s fitting (like now – man, you rock, body!); you keep me pretty healthy without injuries to any of my vital jogging parts; you give me a fresh outlook whenever I give you plenty of sleep. We’re in a symbiotic relationship here, body; I do try to keep your wishes and desires in mind.

Besides, I never make fun of you, dear body. Sure, there are times when I pull the girly thing and complain that I’m fat, but I know I’m really not. Even though I have runner’s feet, I try to not complain because it’s those feet that keep me running. Thank you, body! I love the fact that you decided on small breasts, body. I’ve always felt large breasts are unnecessary, and you finally agreed in 1998. Again, thank you, body!

Well, I guess what I’m trying to say is this: I’m sorry, body. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me? We start bellydancing on Thursday; we start Pilates next Wednesday; we already started folklorico last night (and our practice skirt came today, don’t we look great in it!?). We need each other’s strength to get through all these workouts (and yes, I do promise to cut back the running a bit to give you enough rest).

Please take care, body.

Love,

WordNerd
