I Reiterate – Cold Sucks

2005 January 27
by WordNerd

Damn.

I just went outside to test my car – turn it on in this cold and make sure the damn thing could still run in this cold.  I let it sit for a bit, then turned it off.

I got out of the car.  Locked my door.  Closed the door.

The passenger-side window completely collapsed.

Oh.  My.  God.

Nice.  Thanks, Michigan weather!

Wow, this was on the Escort? That really sucks. Will insurance cover the replacement, do you know? I managed to get a new windshield for free back in MI when a rock went through mine; this seems similar (no-fault of yours, and not a crime).

At least you no longer have to drive the car to work…well, not until Monday (and with your dad away, maybe you can borrow another car if you need to?). That would be one cold ride. Maybe you should put some garbage bags or something where the window was until you can get it fixed, just to keep the snow out.

Anyway, sorry to hear about that. Another thing to have to fix.

Yeah, it was the Escort. I called a couple of places that we go to – the guy who tries to always rip us off (yet my dad still uses him) insisted that I’d have to be towed, and Briarwood Ford gave me a straight-out quote without any mention of towing. The quote wasn’t too bad, and it’s a good thing my tax return is nice and hefty and coming in next week, but I’m still pissed. Another thing with cars? Jeez . . . Why can’t I live somewhere where public transportation is actually decent? Or where I could walk anywhere?

I’m not too worried about driving into work on Monday – I’m using an Explorer and the Briarwood Ford guys said it’d take three days at the very most. I’m still going to call around and see if I can’t get one of the windshield places to just come out here and fix it . . . we’ll see.

I’m just really glad no one was actually sitting *in* the passenger’s seat when it happened. That would’ve been way worse.

Oh, and quick P.S. that I forgot to mention: I’m keeping the Escort in the garage. Hopefully no one else’s window decides to just spider and crack!
