Temas y debates
Tema numero uno: I am a certified vanilla latte whore (I’m anticipating, with dread, the searches that’ll produce). After attending the Monday morning meeting (in which I was given nothing to do for the week – my boss just more or less gave me and two other people the week off), I swung by the Starbucks Meijer and ordered myself a tall non-fat vanilla latte. I was in desperate need of the sugar and caffeine. Not so much because I was tired, but because I needed something to lift me up a bit, even artificially. While I won’t resort to marijuana, I will resort to a Starbucks quick fix.
Tema numero dos: On my way back from Meijer (in which I also bought egg noodles, white popcorn kernels and styling products), I had the dubious pleasure of hearing Rob Thomas’s new single, "Lonely No More," in its entirety. I really, really want to like it, but it just seems like a song that J.Lo should be "singing." I can almost picture the cheesy dance moves and the half-naked backup dancers in the video (I have not seen the video, if it exists). I will try to sample the rest of the album once it comes out – I’m sincerely hoping this song is a fluke. Right after the song, I switched the radio to 89X and was treated to Oasis’s "Champagne Supernova." Is it wrong of me to admit that I love the (What’s the Story) Morning Glory album like it’s nobody’s business? And that I tend to sing it at the top of my lungs when alone?
Tema numero tres: I have selected a haircut for today’s appointment with my very kick-ass stylist who has never done anything wrong to my hair in nearly six years of going to her. While I won’t be going short (as is my wont), I will be going for something that is radically different from what I do usually do. It’s not freaky in the least – much more "hip" than freaky, I would say – and I’m sincerely looking forward to the end result. That, and I need to get rid of the damn split ends that have resulted from the lack of a recent cut. Working from home, you start to get the idea that it’s not really that important how you look. I’d like to battle that idea as much as possible. Who knows when a stranded hockey player might show up at my door and ask to use the phone? Heh.
Tema numero quatro: My mother has been harping on and on about how she never got her children Christmas presents this past year. While her reason to not do so was entirely understandable (and it reminds me that I have only mentioned to people in person, not on this blog, that my grandmother is worlds better and herself – yay!), Mom insists that she’s going to spend $100 on us each. I tried to dissuade her for a good couple of weeks, but she kept on pressing. I caved – the iPod 512MB iShuffle is only $99, free shipping. It hasn’t been ordered yet, but my dependence on CD players will soon be a thing of the past. What can I say? I’m not made of stone.
Tema numero cinco: New Gateways have been purchased for people at work. Excuse me while I hug my HP Pavilion dv1000 to my chest and refuse to let it go. No matter what they buy (and from what I’ve heard, it’s not that great), they could never top the awesome power that my baby has. Would it be odd of me to dress it up in a cute yellow jumper? I imagine this is what parenthood is like: More than a month is gone and I’m still in awe. Of course, unlike parenthood, I probably will have to relinquish this to get something EVEN BETTER! But that’s a couple of years down the road.
Tema numero seis: Come up with more temas. The debates? Eh, not so much.
