I Rawk!

Well, not really.  Well, no, let’s not be too modest.  I do rock.  But do I "rawk?"  Probably not.

Anyway, the reason why I do indeed rock besides my intelligence, stunning good looks and modest nature?  I’ve finished my half of the big event, and am waiting on someone else to finish theirs so I can start a write-up.  Once I’ve received the go-ahead, I plan on floating to the nearest wireless cafe (free wireless cafe, I’ll have to add) and doing my write-up there.  Much better to get that done somewhere pleasant than old, boring home.

Moving on, am I the only one disturbed when the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News try to endorse Michigan State athletics with the same enthusiasm and giddiness as they do Michigan Athletics.  I’m not defending Michigan Athletics and their crappy basketball performances because I hate them, but it just seems so odd to see southeastern papers trying to drum up support for a school that’s probably loathed deeply in this part of the state.  I know both the women’s and men’s teams have made it to the Final Four – what the Freep and the News don’t realize is that alums like me and ordinary Michigan fans like everyone else really don’t give a shit.  And it’s almost redundant to say that the fervor of the sports writers go down a couple of notches when discussing the victories of the State teams.  It’s like, Freep, News . . . Stop.  Just stop.  We can tell you’re only halfheartedly reporting.  Instead of trying to drum up your own excitement by slapping them on the front page every single day, relegate them to the sports page where they belong.  You know this isn’t right, I know it isn’t right.  So stop.

If this were like any other year and the Wings were in the playoffs, we wouldn’t have this problem at all.  The Wings would be on the front page, and with good reason too.

Moving on #2, it’s been a nice few days in Michigan (I know, a thigh-slapper, but stick with me here).  It’s been nice enough to wears skirts and no jackets; it’s been nice enough to run in shorts and a tank top (and nearly fry when the wind stops blowing); it’s been nice enough for the Road Commission to actually drive onto our dirt road and lay some more gravel.  However, the new gravel leads to me being covered in dust by the time I return home from a run (thanks, asshole drivers who can’t slow the fuck down and must stir up a veritable dust devil) – while I appreciate the Road Commission getting off their bums, I don’t appreciate the drivers on my road.

Moving on #3, my older brother is about to lease a new car before his old lease is up; this wouldn’t be a big deal if he were getting the same brand, but of course he’s not.  That means his Toyota will be sitting in the driveway, useless, while his new Ford gleams proudly in the sun.  He’s asked me to drive the Toyota occasionally so that his last couple of payments do not go to waste.  I, however, am not fully endorsing the idea.  I have this nasty habit of crashing cars that aren’t mine.  Rather than get myself into trouble by having to buy a wrecked car, I think I’ll stay the hell away from the Toyota.

Moving on #4, I can never spell the word "occasionally" right on the first try.  Yes, I do have an M.A. in English, why do you ask?
