How Do You Speak American English, Eh?

Heh.  No shit.  So I speak 10% Dixie?  I’d like to graciously protest that I DO NOT!  I had no idea I was such a Yankee, either, though that just might be recent influence.   If I had taken this about four years ago, I’m relatively sure I’d be 90% General American English.  When asked if I say "y’all," I answered that I never said it, though I do - mostly in a jocular manner, though.  I don’t use it seriously.  Seriously.

If you’ll excuse me, I need to get back to Braselton, Georgia.

Apparently I speak even less “general American english” than you, but (somewhat reassuringly for the survey) the difference appears to be made up in enhanced “Yankee” for me. The 10% Dixie is perplexing, but I’ll keep it in mind if I ever run for office.
    50% General American English
    35% Yankee
    10% Dixie
    5% Upper Midwestern
    0% Midwestern

That 10% Dixie is kind of scary because I’m not exactly sure where it pops into the equation.

If you play up your Dixie-ness, I’m not voting for you. ;)

Ah, well you may not vote for me, but millions of southerners will. Especially when I declaim in my “dixie” accent that I am a devout Baptist who believes in “the Loh-ard”.

Btw, on the same site as this survey, they have a “you know you come from…when…” for every state and some regions within states. I enjoyed the Lawn Guyland one, though it reminded me not only that I come from there, but also that I’m glad I’m not still there. The Boulder one was full of cliches, and the Michigan one…hmmm, I guess - even after 7 years there - that I don’t “come from” Michigan, because I honestly didn’t get a lot of them.

I’m guessing it’s one thing we’re all answering the same that we THINK isn’t Dixie, but is originally. Yes, V, you kick both of our asses. Probably because you’re much nicer than either of us. ;) You’re also more pretentious than either of us! Anglais? Snot. :D

I haven’t read the “You know you’re from . . . when . . .” section of the site, but I’ll have to check it out soon. However, I must say, IP, claiming you’re a Baptist is as bad as claiming you’re a Texan when you’re really from the East Coast - you’ll be elected for sure!

I think M was appalled by the 5% Dixie, but what can you do? I’m also impressed, though.
