Random Saturday
I am sitting here, checking the server’s proofing list to see who gets to check my report on Monday morning. The report is done – I just wrote and finished it over the course of today. Why? I have no idea. I got up (bright-eyed and bushy-tailed – sangria has nothing on me, I tells ya), went to work out, then came home, ambled around a bit, then went out to the store. I also dropped off my sister at her college dorm (which was my old dorm, by the way). In between all of this, I finished up my report, which is due a week from Monday. If my bosses knew what was good for them, they’d give me a raise. Well, scratch that, I’m not sure that a raise (insubstantial as it would be, too) could keep me in Michigan or with this company.
I checked my work messages today also. A client of mine called me (I have told them all to call my cell, but I think they forget), asking me to call back when I could. I did not check my messages yesterday – I feel bad, but it’ll be okay. It didn’t sound urgent, because he didn’t call me again or send me any e-mails. I am now fantasizing of a situation in which they say "We love you! We love your work! We’d like to steal you away to do the reports in-house; we’d pay you roughly $60 to $80K (Ed. note: Way cheaper than what my company charges), and you could live anywhere the hell you wanted – you just have to be reachable during work hours, and maybe visit our corporate offices several times during the season. What do you say?" To that ideal situation (which will never happen, mind you, unless I engage in some serious business shenanigans), I would say HELL YEAH!
(And to anyone wondering why the hell I’d spend a Saturday, off and on, working on a work report for a company that seriously doesn’t appreciate me, I’m not doing it for them; I’m doing it for my client with whom I have a great business relationship; his vouching for me in the marketing world would help greatly if it was ever needed. Also, I plan to fuck around majorly on Monday – a weight workout, a run and a long-ass lunch will entail my day.)
It was a nice day of just slacking off; it’s not like I could go outside for a run (not needed today, anyway), go for a walk or even just go out to wander Ann Arbor. It has been raining/snowing all day long, and we’re supposed to be getting 5-8 inches. I don’t know if it’ll happen because nothing’s been sticking. Nevertheless, it has been one crappy-ass day, so it’s not right for anyone to expect much out of me.
Last night, however, was spent with good friends, good drinks and good food. It was an early night (as are all nights at Dominick’s), but it was a fun night. If the weather agrees with us, we might even do it again soon; we’ll see.
And now, all of a sudden, it’s 9:30pm at night. I want to go to sleep.
