And the Summer Continues

I spent the day placating a new client whose report didn’t turn out the way she was hoping.  As I’m just a third-party observer and have no interest in what happens (I deal with objectively producing the results, not the politics that come from the results), I tried to reassure her that yes, the report was as accurate as possible, and no, there was no way I could bend the rules to add a few more drops of weight to her report.  At the beginning of the exchange, she spoke to me as if I were a child, as if I didn’t know the importance of the poor results.  I was surprised that I really didn’t react to the condescension of the first few emails – it was obvious she had not read the contract, and she even admitted to me that she had not seen the very thing I had analyzed.  In reality, because she was unaware of the contract and the matter analyzed, I began laughing rather than thumping my fist against the desk and crying foul.  She finally accepted my results, but with some reluctance.  I’m almost sure she’ll come back for Round 2 of "You’re Trying to Cheat Us, Aren’t You?", but that’s out of my hands.  Like I told my boss, I stand by my results since I had knowledge of what they were looking for, but they didn’t present it in a clear manner at all.  I looked, and hard, but didn’t see.  Ah, well.

Besides, the regular clients are happy with the report.

I returned to my half-marathon training ways today with stellar results.  While speedwork seems to be getting easier, I’m not going to lie – it’s my least favorite part of the week.  The first few sessions of the speedwork go quite well, but by the last session, I’m gasping like crazy and always miss my mark by about five seconds.  I think it all balances out, though, because the first few sessions are always a little bit too fast – I need to learn how to better control my pace when I’m fresh.  Ah, but that’s over for another week, woohoo!  I look forward to my long runs, though – bring on the 11 miles scheduled for Saturday.

The job search of course continues, and I’ve made plans to get my ass out of the house this weekend, head to a wireless cafe with free access, and work on writing cover letters and searching for other jobs.  I have to say, while there are plenty of jobs that I am qualified for, there are at the moment very few jobs that would utilize my experience.  In other words, I’m still not finding much at the moment.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will change soon.  I’m also keeping my fingers crossed that, one day soon, I’ll get a few calls for a few interviews.  I want my apartment with a queen bad, and soon, my dears.

I also need to go shopping today, but not for yours truly – for my grandmother in Mexico.  There are a few items the woman could do with, so we’re going to gather them today (or attempt to, if we can find them) and try to send them to a) my cousins and uncles in California or b) my cousins in the state capital of Zacatecas (Zacatecas, in case you’re wondering what the state capital’s name is).

An overall uneventful day, save for the jittery client and the drudgery of speedwork.  Off I go to try to relax away from the computer for a while.
