Training by the Numbers
2005 September 1
Last night, I purchased my ticket to San Francisco and the half-marathon. Cue nervous yet excited scream from me. I get to stopover in Denver and, as I failed to mention last night on the phone, make it back to Colorado before my boyfriend does. Not that I get to go wander, but I still won this competition I just created five minutes ago out of thin air.
I kid because I love.
So the half-mary so far by the numbers:
- 38% – Percentage of my training completed as of this morning, when I stumbled into the driveway barely under my own power, having completed a seven miler at an average pace of 9:07.
- $253 – The cost of the plane ticket to San Francisco.
- $260 – The cost of the hotel for three nights in San Francisco, right outside the race’s starting line. The price is currently for two people (I might have to change it to three, in which case I’m making my parents pay half–it’s only fair, I think).
- $55 – The cost of the race itself.
- Yes, it’s a lot of money, but I didn’t want to finish my first half-marathon anywhere near Michigan.
- 15,000 – The number of registrants for the full and half-marathon. The race is sold out, and has been for at least a week as far as I know.
- 109.18 – The number of miles I’ve completed in nearly five weeks of training.
- 2,096 – The number of miles I’m flying to get my ass to San Francisco.
- Infinite – The amount of excitement I feel at finally doing something with my running.
The half-mary by the numbers.
