Merry Christmas 2005

2005 December 25

Merry Christmas to all. I hope everyone’s enjoying their holiday season; even though I’ve pretty much been a Grinch since Thanksgiving, I have to admit that I’m having a nice time. Last night, we had tamales for dinner, along with the whiskey sours I whipped up to enjoy. This morning, for breakfast, I made pancakes while my mother took care of the bacon and eggs and coffee; before that, we opened present after present. Quite a bit was opened, especially considering we had gift buddies.

Some highlights of the holiday season:

1) My mother falling in love with “Dominick the Italian Christmas Donkey.” A Detroit station, WNIC, plays Christmas music from November 1 through December 25, and they’ve put “Dominick” into heavy rotation. We heard it on our way to finish shopping on Thursday and Friday, and my mom now loves the song. I hadn’t heard the song until three years ago, and hadn’t even known of its existence until my boyfriend told me about it shortly after we started dating. I didn’t believe him that it existed way back in those early days of 2002. Then my friend L picked me up for a shopping spree during the 2002 Christmas season, and we got into a discussion as to what our favorite Christmas songs were. She answered that “Dominick” was her favorite song, to which I responded “No shit, that exists!?” My boyfriend guessed correctly that I had wondered whether he had gotten to L in order to pull my leg. I now have it on my iTunes because, in the past few days, it’s become something my mom wants to hear.

2) The decent weather. We’re having a white Christmas, but it’s a pretty warm Christmas compared to the past couple of weeks. I ran outside yesterday again, completing 5.12 miles with ease. I don’t feel that I need to run today, but I just might, to celebrate Christmas in my own way. I saw a runner outside at eight this morning, but at that time, we were getting breakfast ready and about to open gifts. Also, it was foggy: If there is one thing I hate, it’s a foggy run where no one can see you. Scares the bejeezus out of me.

3) Watching “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” on Christmas Eve. It certainly isn’t what one thinks of when choosing viewing fare the day before the Saviour was born.

4) Getting a ton of stuff to keep me warm. I received a soft terry cloth robe, winter accessories from the Gap, socks, lounging pj pants, a cashmere sweater, and a throw blanket. Everyone just wants to keep me warm because I’m always cold, I suppose.

5) Lots to read and a little something to watch from my boyfriend. My sister wrapped all of the presents he sent me so that I’d have to wait until Christmas to open my gifts. I’m still upset that he wasn’t able to receive his gifts before he left for vacation, but he’ll get them soon enough. And by the way? Hon, you’re too much. :)

6) That’s what’s happened so far, but it’s only 1:07pm. If more happens during the day, or I remember other memorable moments from the season, I’ll add it.
