Weekends in the D.C. Area

Weekends seem so odd to me at the moment. It’s like all responsibility has been taken out of two days of the week, and I’m at a loss on how to fill the time. People with busy weekends will hate me for saying this, but I honestly have absolutely nothing to do, and the lack of anything to do fills me with . . . meh.

While living in Michigan and working for the idiots at Dyn-o-mite, I always had stuff to do. Because I am a glutton for punishment, I often used my weekends to catch up or stay ahead of my work at Dyn-o-mite. I have no idea why I did it, other than wanting to beat my deadlines. It never got me any recognition, monetary or otherwise, but I still did it. It was half keeping my clients happy, half wanting to do whatever the hell I wanted to during the week. I also spent Saturdays and Sundays in the company of my sister and mother, shopping. I wasn’t particularly active when it came to doing an activity that was out of the ordinary or productive, but it was routine. I had routine.

Now, I either have none or am in the process of establishing one. Currently, I run in the afternoon, before dinner. I don’t really have lunch on weekends (unless you count the damn sugar cookies I just made–what the hell? As if I didn’t have Girl Scout cookies galore already. As an aside, if you want cookies, IP, you’re more than welcome to pick some up next time you’re here). I wake up really late (that needs to stop), I go to the store with IP for food on one weekend day or the other, and then I just lounge around all day, reading and surfing, before I go for a run. After the run, I continue my lounging around until a) I have dinner with IP or b) it’s time to go to sleep. I am quite lazy right now, there’s no bones about it.

Point is, I need to fill up my time with something. Something that doesn’t involve buying clothes, too. Volunteering is the natural answer, right? After a few searches, I’ll get back to you on that.

Pick up a new hobby, like knitting or painting. Maybe there’s a class you can take.

I have always wanted to learn how to knit–good idea. I should look into those pastry classes, shouldn’t I?

    Or cake decorating!

Hmm, yes, totally. Maybe I could learn how to make a C.C. Babcock cake!

That would be sweet, literally. I’m sad I won’t be able to watch “The Nanny” now that we don’t have cable. Thank God “Project Runway” is nearly done.

Would you want “The Nanny” on DVD as a graduation gift? :D

Yeah, “The Nanny” as a gift would be awesome! Don’t forget to get The Goblet of Fire today. The only place I can get it is at Border’s, but they’re expensive so I’ll wait for the weekend to head to Target or something.

I’m ticked they didn’t have Harry Potter at the mall. Ticked!

You should’ve been The Nanny for Halloween. I guess you still can this year. “Mr. Sheffield!”

    Mayhaps.

Argh! I want to watch Harry! I was watching the Oscars the other day and was shocked, shocked, that it wasn’t nominated for the special effects award. I don’t see how Chronicles of Narnia, War of the Worlds, and King Kong were the only ones deemed worthy of a nomination. Bah. The Oscars are a joke now anyway.

Forget the Oscars–no HP movie has ever won anything from them, and we KNOW that’s a crime against nature, don’t we? I mean, not even the score was nominated this year. It’s an excellent score! Screw the Oscars!

Harry’s too good for them anyway. :D

Yeah, Harry has better things to do. Like saving the world, for instance.

True. But, WAH! Please don’t die, Harry!
