In Which I Discuss Nothing in Particular

It has again been suggested that I update this blog. I guess I should, given I’ve paid for the space for a year, and because I do like to write. I had hoped to write more, and be a little more interesting, when I moved, but alas! So far, I have been too lazy to set up any kind of routine, let alone a writing routine. That obviously has to change (in terms of running, writing, reading, and weekends), but how to go about getting out of my lazy rut?

Hmm . . .

Okay, I’ll work on that and get back to you.

However, even though I’ve been silent, that’s not to say that life has been boring. In my short month and a half of financial independence, I’ve slowly but surely been discovering the joys of being an adult. Of course, experience with bills I already had, but the joy of having your own space, making your own decisions, and working a job you are still learning but still loving is wonderful. While I do have furniture to pay off and I’m crazy-obsessed with my budget (though really, I shouldn’t be–there’s no possible way I’m going to starve or not pay my bills or my rent), I wouldn’t have it any other way. Like I was telling my family earlier, of course I miss them, but this new magic of being an adult just leaves me tickled and quite content. My mother was telling me one time that she worried about me, coming home from work to an empty and quiet apartment (I still don’t have and probably won’t get a TV). But I love it–the quiet’s what I need to either do some reading or surf. I of course would like to get out and about more–there’s still that running club to join–but I’m pretty happy where I am in life. Overall, I’m not as bitter as I was, I’m not as tied up in the successes of my friends in comparison to me, and I’m generally less whiny (though I’m not sure my boyfriend would agree with me there). This was something that I needed to do, and I’m happy that I’ve gone out and done it.

I do have some events coming up, though. My sister is graduating in April, so I’ll be visiting Michigan quite soon. My friend L is going to be heading my way a week after my sister’s graduation, so I have two full weekends, one of which consists of entertaining a friend in the D.C. area. There’s also the Cherry Blossom Festival coming up–I have never been, obviously, and my boyfriend and I have decided to check it out, although our foray into that will probably be brief if the crowds are overwhelming and obnoxious. (Side note: If you’re visiting D.C., and you happen to see this, please know that the left side of an escalator in a Metro station is the fast lane–please walk or move to the right side. Thank you.) I guess, at some point, I should see the White House, but I don’t really care for its current resident. If Clinton were still there, I’d be all about it, but right now I’d be happier checking out the primate section of the National Zoo (again). Meh . . . nah, White House is not on my list. But, I am looking forward to what I do have on my plate.

I should just walk around and take pictures of my environs. That’ll get the blood flowing.

I love how Mom reacts to the suggestion of her visiting the White House.

Oh, all of her reactions to Bush are classic. Remember the apples?
