Raiding My Boyfriend’s Library: The Book List

One of my New Years resolutions was to try to read more this year, and to document what I’ve read. While I hadn’t been stellar thanks to the move, I have taken up reading again as I don’t have a TV (which I actually enjoy, believe it or not–at least until Deadwood is on and I can’t see it). Here’s the first entry in the list, which will be updated as I finish a book (or two). And yes, I’ll try to include pithy new titles for the blog entries as I go along.

Finished:

1) The Last Days of Henry VIII: Conspiracy, Treason and Heresy at the Court of the Dying Tyrant by Robert Hutchinson
2) Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross
3) Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
4) Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut
5) One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Re-read:

1) Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore

Currently Reading:

1) Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell

Waiting To Be Read (Already Purchased, Got as Gifts, Borrowed from My Boyfriend, or Otherwise Accessible without the Use of Funds, But Not an Assurance That I Will Read These Before I Buy More Books):

1) Lost for Words: Hidden History of Oxford English Dictionary by Lynda Mugglestone
2) Whose Bible Is It?: A History of the Scripture through the Ages by Jaroslav Pelikan
3) Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America by Barbara Ehrenreich
4) Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why by Bart D. Ehrman

I can’t wait until I can read just for fun again.

How was the Pope Joan one? Would you recommend it?

It’s not bad. There’s some drama, and of course there has to be some sort of romance so that Joan gives birth in the middle of a papal procession, but overall, it’s okay. I’ll lend it to you.

Do you happen to know what’s the third book I bought when I bought Pope Joan and Nickle and Dimed?

Cool, I’d like to read it.

What’s the name of the missing book? I can look for it next time I go home.

By the way, I totally misread the title of this entry when I first saw it.

Uh-oh — I hesitate to ask what you thought the title was!

Anyway, I was asking you if you knew the name of the book I had purchased. I wanted to put it on my list, but I can’t remember what it was. I know there was a third one, though.

I’ll bring Pope Joan with me. :)

I’m sure you can figure it out.

Oh, for some reason I read that “do you know what happened to…” Wow, how come I’m misreading everything? But sorry, I don’t know the name :(

Yay, I’m so excited about seeing you! When I had a whiskey sour this weekend I thought of you. But soon we’ll have a whiskey sour together!
