Behold! A Sudden Gust of Motivation!

The motivation to do laundry, that is. I was all set to curl up with my book (The Golden Ass [Is this the story of Mathgeek? Kidding!]) when I was gripped by the sudden urge to, you know, get laundry done before I go away for the weekend. Since I’m leaving on Thursday night, that gives me tonight and tomorrow to do, you know, stuff. I was content to let it ride until tomorrow when, out of nowhere, the motivation I’d been lacking all day long decided to leap to sudden life. So, my stuff’s awashin’.

I’m resisting, however, the motivation to buy anything from the White House | Black Market catalog. Besides, if I really want something? I’ll go to the conveniently located Union Station shop which I’ve never laid eyes on but is supposedly there. Must resist temptation! Must . . . save money . . . to buy . . . stuff (there’s that word again–what I really want to say is “Maidenform bras and panties”) at . . . Kohl’s . . . this weekend.

Besides, I already spent a pretty penny today. Utilizing a 10% coupon and a gift card that’d been sitting dormant in my desk drawer for nearly a month, I purchased a coffee table, two end tables, and a console table. I am also sorely tempted to go to Barnes & Noble to search for some nice, interesting coffee table books–this urge I will not fight much longer because, hey, it’s decoration, damnit. My place is in need of it, yeah! My sort of empty apartment will look considerably homier (yo!) once I have these pieces shipped and I assemble them all by myself–I will only need a sideboard and a few bookcases to complete the apartment (though I’ll need a file cabinet and more artwork at some point).

Additionally, money that would go to the White House | Black Market store needs to be used for somethings that will be a bit more useful. As I believe I mentioned, I lost my cell phone quite a while ago, and will need to buy one when I’m in Michigan this weekend. Unfortunately, this is not the month to be my small, nifty gadget. Last Friday, at the completion of a successful week (workwise), I somehow stepped on my iPod nano. The screen, it is gone, and I’m pretty sure it’s damaged internally, too. Were I still employed at Dyn-o-mite!, I’d be furious thanks to my paltry salary there. However, now that I’m gainfully employed, I’m weighing the options–1,000 song iPod nano or 7,500 song iPod? Hmm, so much to consider! Granted, I don’t own 7,500 songs, but I didn’t own 500 songs when I first purchased my iPod nano in October. Besides, how is one supposed to train for a marathon sans music? I won’t hear of it, I tell you. I’m skimping on the phone and buying an iPod ASAP. I was going to go for the Razr, but now I’ll just stick with the type of phone I lost. iPods come first, you know. iPods and protective cases that can take a kitten heel and still protect my little purveyor of musical delights.

Sorry, phone.

On another indulgent front, I forgot to mention that Deadwood started this month (yay!). I, however, do not have cable (sob!). I do, however, have a wonderful older brother (YAY!!!!) who has helpfully provided me with the first episode, and will watch the second episode with me on Friday (while IP’s engaged in interesting conversation with his colleagues, I’ll be vegging out in front of the TV with the words fuck, cocksucker, and loopy c*nt flying off the screen). I had not previously planned it to do so, but my laptop will accompany me to Michigan, where big brother will work his magic and make sure I’m never sad on Monday nights. I will also take the opportunity to rename my computer so that it fits the Roman theme we have at my parents’ house (and my apartment).

Okay, I’m done “composing my thoughts, tropes, and gambits.”*

*Thanks to Mr. Al Swearengen for the lovely quote, curiously devoid of any swear words. Will you excuse me?

What makes you think my “interesting conversation with colleagues” won’t involve all those words? (Probably said many times, in reference to people I think you can guess!) :)
