Running and Shopping, Take Two

I had a wonderful run of six miles this morning, but not without incident.  As such, I was half an hour late to work, but it was no big deal.

What kept me at home for an extra 30 minutes?  When I woke up this morning, I heard the “Device Disconnect” sound on my computer chime, so I assumed that my iPod was fully charged and had taken all night long to do so (geez).  After changing into running clothes, I walked over to my iPod to see that it was, in fact, not charged, but on extremely low battery.  Resetting the damn thing didn’t help—I could hear the hard drive clicking and whirring, but nothing of consequence happened at the time.  I would see the Apple icon, and then there was nothing but a dark screen with a graphic of a battery running low on power.

Impossible, I thought.  I charged the damn thing all night long.  I went into a panic.  I had just purchased this iPod.  I barely had anything on it (at least, not enough to fill up 30MB of space) and I treated it like a newborn.  It had been working fine the night before—what the hell?

I launched iTunes (the iPod would not launch iTunes when I hooked up the device), and I was immediately told I had to download iTunes 7.

Um, I thought, is this why no charging happened?  Because iTunes had wanted an update?

I then downloaded iTunes 7, which took forever.  It was 6:10am before the damn thing finished downloading (I started downloading the update at 5:45am), updating, and installing a new iPod update.  As soon as that was complete, though, my iPod flashed with light and life, and it was charging again.  It told me that my battery was still low, but at least it was charging.

I grudgingly did my run sans music.  I thought briefly about taking my headphones in order to watch TV at the gym, but gyms and TVs do not mix well for me.  I’m always afraid I’ll trip off of my treadmill, and the moving images tend to make me a bit dizzy.  I instead spent my run concentrating on the towels, which were nice and stationary.

Here’s something:  Never, ever try to watch Ok Go’s “Here It Goes Again” video while you’re on a treadmill.  Something about watching those guys dance on eight (or is it just six?) treadmills is not conducive towards a good run.  It would be conducive towards falling and skinning yourself on the belt.

Anyway.

When I returned home, the iPod was still charging happily.  Upon disconnection, the damn thing was now fully charged.  Bullshit, I thought.  It was nearly fully charged last night—there’s no way it could’ve completed a charge within 60 minutes.  Damn thing wanted an iTunes and iPod update, and it wasn’t going to charge until it got it.  And I had to stare at towels for 45 minutes because of it.  Towels, I tell you!

But I shall live.

However, I curse the inventions that are eBay and PayPal.  Thanks to them, I found the dress I wanted to wear to a friend’s wedding for $400 cheaper than the retail price.  Damn you, eBay!  Damn you, PayPal!

But I’ll look fabulous in Vera Wang emerald green come December.  Honey, IP?  We need to find you a green tie. ;)
