Marathon Day
The 111th running of the Boston Marathon is today—currently, the leaderboards have stats for the women, and the men should be following through very shortly. I’m unsurprised that the continued with the marathon in the type of weather that the Northeast is experiencing. After all, runners are damn crazy, and that’s why I’m one of them. I have to admire athletes who both qualify or raise charity for Boston. Boston always seems to be characterized by extremes. I can’t remember the last time when it was just a nice day to run a marathon. Everyone gushed about how great New York 2006 was for running, and I have to agree. It wasn’ too hot, it wasn’t terribly cold after you got started, and even walking around for a taxi afterwards wasn’t too chilling. My time obviously would never allow me to qualify for Boston, but that was never a goal during my first marathon. It’d be nice to make it, though. However, given the gusting that went on last night in the DC area, I don’t envy Boston’s athletes today.
But again, I do admire them.
