Happy Birthday to Wordiest WordNerd There Ever Was . . .

2007 May 25

On the morning of my 29th birthday, I guess my mind decided that I needed to take a ride. While on the Metro, I got to what I thought was the stop before mine. As I sat there, waiting for the train to continue forward, I stared at an advert for the Bodies exhibit in Rosslyn. I do not consider myself a squeamish woman—I have dissected a human forearm, after all—but I realized how sick I was of seeing the body of a man cut in half during my morning commute. I am beginning to feel a little revolted by all the advertising for the exhibit, and I would take signage for NASCAR over Bodies any day—that’s how sick I am of it. While staring at the advert, and realizing I have to update the book list to include two new books I purchased, the train pulled away from the stop.

I then looked up to see the windows of the Metro car reflecting light back at me. “What the hell . . . ?” I thought to myself, then mentally smacked my forehead with a wince and a small jump—I had missed my stop and we were exiting the tunnel. I got to enjoy the bright, sunny morning as we rode to the next stop. Giggling a bit to myself, I stepped off the train once it stopped, and then hopped back on the train bound towards my workplace. I bid adieu to the bright sunlight and re-entered the tunnel, getting off at my stop and heading into a relatively busy morning. I had always suspected I would do this, but never on my birthday: it seems to illustrate to me that yes, I am getting older, and the mind is not quite what it used to be. Or I was just really suddenly grossed out by the Bodies advert, so much that it derailed my normal, autopilot routine of a morning.

So, happy birthday to moi! I am a stunning yet forgetful 29. Anyone who’s been informed of my impending festivities and does not know me usually responds with an age about eight years younger than I am—my mother’s genes at work once again. I am being squired by IP to Gordon Biesch’s tonight, where there will be much rejoicing in our cups. I received Target gift cards, my gym membership will be renewed, and I’ll probably get an iTunes gift card, I believe. All in all, can you say “score”?

Now, I just need the Ducks to lose to the Senators at Monday’s Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals to complete my birthday long weekend. If the Senators can then just sweep the Ducks the hell away from Stanley, I’ll be quite happy.

I still claim that WordNerd just turned 33. She, however, insists that she is only 29. Due to these irresolvable differences, she is hereby closing comments on this thread.
