Racing Updates
Some minor housekeeping in the running department. The racing blogroll has been updated to reflect my time at the National Race for the Cure and the 2008 NYC Marathon (no, I have not clicked ‘Cancel My Entry’ just yet—I’ve been busy, all right?). After two weeks of complete rest, IP and I returned to the gym this weekend and I began a light running regimen that will segue into training for Marine Corps (no, again, I still haven’t clicked on ‘Cancel My Entry’—I’ll do it tomorrow, I swear).
Finally, as a tip to fellow runners, if you’re in need of a few songs to spice up your runs, I recommend the following top three picks from my “Treadmill” playlist:
- Johnny Cash’s “Orange Blossom Special” from the At Folsom Prison album. The speedy harmonica mimicking a train really does help your pace. Alas, I will not have an opportunity this year to have any kind of New York blues this year at Miles 17 – 18.5ish (where I hit my wall last year).
- Immaculate Machine’s “Jarhand” from their album Fables. I discovered this song via the free download of the week on iTunes, and have subsequently bought the entire album. Great music from Canadians (no surprise—the best rock is coming from Canada and Great Britain at the moment, in my humble opinion).
- “The Bitch of Living” from the soundtrack to Spring Awakening. I haven’t seen the musical, wouldn’t mind seeing it, and would probably end up buying the entire album if I saw it. However, this was another free iTunes download—I’m kind of a free download junkie.
