Sigh . . . See? I finally canceled my entry.

Dear WordNerd,

We have received your cancellation for the 2007 ING NYC Marathon. We are sorry you won’t be joining us for the 2007 ING NYC Marathon. The word CANCELED will appear next to your name in the entrant database at http://webapps.ingnycmarathon.org/entrantsearch

You are eligible for guaranteed entry to next year’s Marathon. All fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Now that you have canceled, you cannot be reinstated into the 2007 ING NYC Marathon. In February 2008, we will e-mail you instructions for submitting your guaranteed entry. If you wish to enter, you must submit your application according to the instructions with all fees by May 1, 2008.

For any questions or concerns, or if you have not received your guaranteed entry information by March 31, 2008, please contact marathonmailer@nyrr.org or call 212.423.2249.

We hope to see you at the start line in 2008.

Regards,
2007 ING NYC Marathon

NYC Marathon, barring major impediments, I will definitely be at the starting line on November 2, 2008.

My co-workers suggested that I run NYC and Marine Corps this year, but as they’re only a week apart, it’d be foolish for me since I’m a relatively novice marathoner. Maybe one day I’ll do two marathons in a row, but that day’s still far off.

Sorry you cancelled, but at least you had registered (unlike moi! :)

I have started running though! (and am still using the elliptical – which I have to confess I like better than running, even though I’ve been told by someone who works out 3 hrs/day(!) that it’s not as good of a workout.

I stick to the elliptical too, because when I used to run I’d feel it in my knees the next day (though maybe I should give it another try – that was years ago and I get inspired now every time I go to a race). Minute-for-minute it’s probably not as good as running (in terms of calories burned), but it’s easier to do intervals and mix things up, which helps make up some of the difference.

Overall, the elliptical really has its pluses; maybe it’s not *as* good as running, but you’re able to do more and go longer because your perceived level of effort is lower, so you don’t feel the workout as much (but you’re still getting it). I think elliptical and arc training are nice compliments to running–you train different leg muscles and it helps with imbalances you get from running.

I like running better than the machines, but only when it comes to outdoor running. :)
