Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear

I took a picture of Mount St. Helens reflected in our rental car’s side view mirror, but it didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped (at least not in a Jurassic Park kind of way, that is). However, I have many wonderful pictures of the volcano, which include this one:
