Okay, So What’s the Temperature Outside?
At 8am, it was what, 60 degrees?
The summer is just barely over and I still have horrible memories of the humidity that dominated the DC area. Any hint of chill is delightful to me, especially when it’s, you know, not that chilly. But . . .
Why the hell are you people wearing coats? What the hell? IP saw someone wearing a scarf. I am befuddled.
And why is the Metro heated? I swear, the temperature drops below 70 degrees and those damn trains are heated. Again, what the hell? Doesn’t Metro realize that some of us walk to the Metro and will be, thanks to minor hills and stairs, warm already by the time we board?
It’s just not that cold. Try Michigan on January 1. That’s cold. That’s coat weather. That’s “Old Man Winter is about to hit your ass with a few ice storms and some below-50 days” cold. This? Is 60 degrees of heaven.
And you people are wearing coats. To quote my father, bah!

Daniel Says:
This is the funniest time of the year…. You see the whole range of people and how they react. Some people bundle up like its 0 degrees outside, some just toss on long sleeves and then there are the true hold-outs, those out at night that are still wearing sandals and shorts. And it lasts for the next month or so (some of the hold-outs manage to stay in denial until around November).

IP Says:
One of the unbreakable rules of Metro appears to be: “Thou shalt always be hot on the Metro, regardless of the temperature outside.” At least, this has been true for me…especially on the Red Line.
I wonder if people putting on heavy coats at the first hint of not-totally-stifling weather in DC is like a reverse Michigan syndrome. You know, the way people go sunbathing on that first spring day where it breaks 50 degrees there, they put on coats and scarves when it goes below 75 in DC. Wishful thinking on everyone’s part?
I don’t know. But I can finally breathe, for the first time since May. So thank goodness fall is finally here.
