Welcome Back, ‘Carty
A great article on Darren McCarty, forward for the Detroit Red Wings from 1993 to 2004. My favorite player third to Steve Yzerman and Chris Osgood, I was more than upset when he was signed by the Calgary Flames in 2005. Hockey, though, is only part of his comeback as he focuses on family and staying clean.
He’s currently playing for the Flint Generals of the IHL thanks to Kris Draper and might be called up to Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL soon. The Wings are watching him, closely, and I’d love nothing more than to see #25 don the red and white once more. Seeing the Grind Line (Draper, Kirk Maltby and McCarty) in action again would kick all kinds of ass, wouldn’t it, eh?
An oldie but goody: our guy McCarty scoring what turns out to be the winning goal against Ron Hextall of the Philadelphia Flyers during Game 4 of the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals. I could post the clip of him beating Claude Lemieux’s ass, but I’ll leave the Colorado Avs out of this . . . for now.
