Indeed, Anne Boleyn Lost Her Head

A message board I frequent was discussing the upcoming tripe that is The Other Boleyn Girl. One poster was outraged by an article that begins with “Natalie Portman may lose her noggin in ‘The Other Boleyn Girl‘ ” — and how dare the reporter spoil the film!? In the first 11 words of the article, no less! I groaned aloud and banged my head into my keyboard (plus: the ‘u’ and ‘c’ keys are finally responding). Who the hell doesn’t know that Anne Boleyn was executed? Want another spoiler? An expert swordsman beheaded her — an act of kindness on Henry’s part, don’t you know? You know what else happened?  Henry VIII married Jane Seymour — and had a son by herSo it must have been Anne’s stubborn womb, right?  I mean, if you’re shocked that Anne Boleyn dies, well, pick up a history book.

Or perhaps I’m being too harsh. She’s only one of the catalysts for the English Reformation and mother to Queen Elizabeth I.  She unseated a princess of Spain and was the first marchioness in her own right in English history.  I understand why no one would know about her or the fact that she was beheaded, and would find offense at being “spoiled” by a film critic’s article.

Just kill me now. Or pick up a history on the reign of Henry VIII. Take your pick.  But please, whatever you do, don’t depend on this movie or the novel for a proper dose of history.  Or film critic reviews.  That contain “spoilers” for history that people should probably already know.  Yeah.

Anne Boleyn was an evil, power hungry woman. Everyone knows that. ;)

I’m just kidding WordNerd. The people that make these movies don’t have any respect for history.
