End-of-Spring Cleaning
My goal this weekend is to do some spring cleaning. Note that it must be done before the beginning of summer on June 21. Why? Because there’s going to be a huge, honking A-line Maggie Sottero wedding gown inhabiting the apartment for nearly two months starting on June 20. ¡Ay, Diós mío!
Given that I’m still not sure how I have to store this baby, I’m going to clean out under the bed (which has been invaded by countless bridal magazines and planning books) and tackle the closet. I have many, many outfits that I don’t wear anymore taking up space—they must go no matter how much I protest that I could possibly, maybe, perhaps one day in the future wear the outfits again. Nope, out they go. Keep in mind, these are still pretty great clothes, but they must be taken the donation box right up the street. Saturday and Sunday will find me with my head stuck under the bed or in the closet. I’m sure IP will appreciate the sudden spark of fervent cleaning on my part, no doubt, and will be happy to see the bridal magazines going, going, gone.
The reality of the situation—we’re getting freaking married!—is starting to buffet me more and more as the countdown on our wedding website admin panel cheerfully reminds me that the day is approaching. It’s more than the counter, though. It’s also the fact that I have to make room for a gown and crinoline; that yesterday IP and I again spent way too much time playing with centerpieces (but honestly, I think we’ve nearly got it); that yesterday IP ordered my wedding ring (which is so beautiful and unique; I still can’t believe it’ll be mine!); that next week we’re going to search for IP’s ring; that people are starting to slowly but surely RSVP for the event all serve to remind me that the day is coming and people will be there to see us pledge eternal teasing, chop-busting, and snide remarks to one another. That we will be united legally in our mutual cynicism and snarktitude. All you need is love indeed.
But first this weekend, which will be one full of cleaning. Not only do I need to make some room, but the place needs a sprucing up, especially if friends of IP visit us during their stay in the D.C. area. These are friends who were married last year and they’re in town for a wedding; we’re unsure of how far they’ll want to stray from their hotel, but if they want to come over to our apartment we’ll make them a mock Teaism breakfast (complete with cilantro eggs, chicken and apple sausage, chai, and even some mini pancakes thrown in for those with sweet tooths). Why don’t you go into town to get some real Teaism, you ask? Well, because there’s a huge race downtown this Sunday. Teaism will be packed. Why brave the insanity? It’ll be nice to catch up with the newlyweds, who may be able to impart some wisdom as what married life will be like once IP and I boldly step into a new dawn for our relationship.

It should be a pretty full weekend.
