Holidays

2009 December 24
by WordNerd

It’s Christmas at WordNerdia-IPia ground zero!

Thanks to last week’s snowstorm (and the panic that ensued), IP and I weren’t able to get all the fixings we needed for Christmas dinner—we plan on solving this by trekking over to our local Giant, but I have to say I’m viewing this expedition with a bit to trepidation. This Giant is typically nutty, so I don’t think it’ll be any better on Christmas Eve. However, I know it must be done, if only to get the vanilla ice cream that we need for our encanelados (and for anyone searching—no, you can’t have my recipe, my mom would kill me dead if I shared). Oh, and the dinner essentials. Yeah.

Things are more or less ready to go, though. I still need to wrap a gift or two, but the tree is surprisingly crowded with gifts. I am a bit pissed at Barnes and Noble, who failed to send the rest of my husband’s gift on time even though I ordered the stuff on December 12; how crappy is that? This is the exact reason why I stopped ordering from Amazon; they had guaranteed a Christmas delivery, but then gave me some bullshit excuse as to why it didn’t get there in time. I sincerely hope that Barnes and Noble doesn’t give me the snowstorm as an excuse; my only answer to that will be to berate them for using DHL for the second half of the gift. DHL stinks: we all know that. If you want gifts to arrive on time (as promised in your adverts), you don’t send stuff via DHL. Ever. Unless you want them to lose your customer records.

Anyway, my point is: don’t tell me that things ordered on December 12 cannot get here by December 25. Especially when you said, when I ordered, that they were guaranteed to get here on time. Bastards.

I’d shop at Shaman Drum, but it’s closed!

But that aside (and yes, I realize that was kind of a Scrooge-ish complaint), the holidays are looking very nice for us. IP’s brother will be visiting us after Christmas; he’s not staying until New Year’s, but it’ll still be good to see him. We’ve no big plans for New Year’s except to do what we always do: ring in the new year together and wish each other the best yet.

Tomorrow: pictures of encanelados! Sans the recipe! Whee!
